On July 11th 2005 The Drepung Gomang Monks bestowed a Puja
upon Beads & Things.
"Puja" is a Sanskrit word that means "offering" The monks
will chant prayers and perform rituals. The prayers are recited in the traditional
overtone chanting, each monk singing a full chord of three notes. The prayers
are often accompanied by delicate hand gestures, cymbals, drums, horns and flutes.
The Drepung Gomang Monastery presents a very special tour focusing on sacred
arts and the community. Art is the foundation for which individual expression
and faith is conveyed.
Mission
of the Sacred Art Tour
The mission of the Sacred Art Tour is threefold: first, the monks sincerely
wish to communicate a message of peace, wisdom and compassion to heal our anxious
minds in these troubled times; second, they are eager to introduce the arts
and culture of Tibet to a North American audience; third, the monastery wishes
to generate funds for two programs necessary for the preservation of the mission
of Drepung Gomang Monastery. These Donation Programs are the Food
Foundation and the Health Fund.
